{"id":39634,"date":"2024-01-06T08:10:03","date_gmt":"2024-01-06T07:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myspecialdoctor.it\/patologia\/cytomegalovirus\/"},"modified":"2024-01-29T16:36:37","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T15:36:37","slug":"cytomegalovirus","status":"publish","type":"patologia","link":"https:\/\/www.myspecialdoctor.it\/en\/patologia\/cytomegalovirus\/","title":{"rendered":"Cytomegalovirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cytomegalovirus<\/strong> is a <strong>DNA<\/strong> virus that belongs to the<strong> herpes virus<\/strong> group.<br \/>\nAfter primary infection it persists in a latent form in the body and can reactivate when defense systems weaken.<br \/>\nCMV infection is known as the most common congenital viral<strong>infection<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe main risk factor is primary infection in <strong>pregnancy<\/strong> with one-third of fetuses infected, about 10% of whom then manifest connatal CMV disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In case of postnatal infection, the disease mainly occurs in the following risk situations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>decreased defenses related to malignant conditions e.g., leukemias, Hodgkin&#8217;s disease, non-Hogdkin&#8217;s lymphomas, AIDS, and immunosuppression in case of organ transplantation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It can be transmitted from mother to fetus.
