The term cystitis refers to inflammation of the urinary bladder, in most cases resulting from a bacterial infection.
The disorder is especially common among women, who tend to experience it repeatedly throughout their lives, mainly due to the particular anatomical conformation of the genito-urinary system (short urethra and proximity of the urethral orifice to the anal region), which facilitates bacterial contamination, even in the face of good intimate hygiene.
