Peyronie ‘s disease is a condition resulting from an abnormality of the penis due to fibrous scar tissue that appears on the penis changing its shape during erection, which becomes curved and causes pain. Some curvature of the penis is sometimes present in some men, but it is a common and unremarkable finding, whereas in Peyronie’s Disease the penis undergoes a more significant flexion.
The disease can make it more difficult to perform the sexual act and maintain an erection, sometimes causing stress and anxiety because of increased difficulty in getting and maintaining an erection and concern about having one’s sexuality compromised.
Peyronie’s disease does not spontaneously heal, but usually the condition remains, sometimes in a milder form, or tends to worsen.
If treatment is timely, the condition may even improve or at least not worsen.
Even if the disease has been present for a few years with treatment, symptoms such as curvature, pain or a reduction in length can be alleviated.
