Urinary incontinence is a condition related to muscular or neurological deficits at the level of the pelvic floor (consisting of the muscle bundles that close the base of the abdomen), which is characterized by the inability to perfectly control the minction stimulus, through the opening and closing of the urinary sphincter, and to decide, therefore, consciously when to hold or release urine.
Traditionally considered a predominantly female issue, urinary incontinence is, in fact, a disorder that can also affect men, especially after bladder or prostate surgery, and which, in whatever form it occurs, results in significant physical and psychological distress, especially when it affects relatively young people with active social and professional lives.
