Panic attack

Summary

E’ un’intensa sensazione di paura e ansia che travolge. Può accadere senza preavviso e senza avere un’idea del motivo per cui sta accadendo. L’attacco di panico non è dannoso, ma è un’esperienza molto spiacevole.

Causes

The precise cause of panic attacks is not known. They may be linked to an issue with how the brain responds to stress and fear.
If you suffer from depression or abuse alcohol or drugs, you may be more prone to experiencing panic attacks.
If you experience panic attacks regularly, you might be suffering from an anxiety disorder known as “panic disorder”.

Symptoms

The symptoms of a panic attack include an overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety. You may feel out of control and as if you are about to die.
Physical symptoms can occur: your heart might race, your chest may hurt, and you could have difficulty breathing, shaking, or experiencing chills.
You might feel nausea, weakness, or dizziness. Your hands might feel numb or experience tingling.
If panic attacks become recurrent, you might develop intense worries about when the next one will happen, to the point of avoiding places where an attack has previously occurred.

Treatment

A panic attack will not cause harm, but if panic attacks begin to interfere with your life, you may benefit from the use of specific medications. Panic attacks can also be treated with talk therapy, which can help you learn to manage the disorder. Your primary care doctor can create an appropriate treatment plan for this issue.
