Oral candidiasis is aninfection of the mouth caused by a type of fungus called Candida Albicans. It is, therefore, a mycosis that can occur in both men and women of all ages.
In these cases, the advice is to see your dental doctor, who will evaluate your symptoms and the best treatment to follow.
Candida Albicans is a yeast-like fungus; normally, it is found in the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and female genitalia. Under special debilitating conditions (early childhood, infectious diseases, anemia, pregnancy), it may develop in the form of pseudohyphae which cover mucosal surfaces. The white, fluffy appearance has also earned the infection the name thrush.
