Varicocele: symptoms, causes and treatment

Varicocele is a pathological dilatation of the testicular (or spermatic) veins, which run along the spermatic funiculus and are responsible for draining blood from the testes. This alteration causes swelling at the affected testicle. Usually, swelling in the testis is the only pathological manifestation of varicocele. However, in some cases, swelling may be accompanied by pain, and in the most severe forms testicular atrophy and infertility.
