Cellulite is an inflammatory-based alteration of the fat-rich subcutaneous tissue(panniculus adiposus), triggered by fluid stagnation due to poor venous and lymphatic circulation (lymph is a fluid that flows in channels parallel to the blood vessels, collecting the body’s waste materials).
This common blemish, which for hormonal reasons almost exclusively affects the women, can also appear in thin people, because it depends not so much on the amount of body fat present, but on the ‘alteration of collagen fibers (which give elasticity and tone to the subcutaneous tissue) and the distribution of “fat cells” (adipocytes) located in specific areas of the body.
