Probiotics and allergic rhinitis

Probiotici-e-rinite-allergica

Allergic rhinitis is a very common and widespread condition in the population with fairly high rates and symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and nasal congestion.
Beyond the effective drugs to treat hay fever and the annoying symptoms it entails, some consideration should be given to probiotics as adjuvants in treating symptoms.
The most commonly observed bacterial strains are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which can certainly be considered effective aids in reducing the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Knowing how much the immune system needs to be able to rely on a gut environment with adequate bacterial microflora, especially because of the established action that some bacterial strains have as immunomodulators in counteracting inflammation ,studies have been conducted to verify the ability that probiotics have both in the prevention and treatment of allergies, highlighting the role of the IgG antibodies against allergic reactions, with higher levels in those taking a probiotic.
The action of the probiotic has also been shown to be valuable in reducingimmunoglobulin E, and thus to reduce the intensity of symptoms.
At the same time, a reduction in Immunoglubulin E, otherwise responsible, for the exacerbation of symptoms, was also identified.

Probiotics for allergic rhinitis should be taken for a duration of not less than 6 to 8 weeks.

Pay attention to the duration of the treatment!

Of the studies reviewed, the duration of probiotic administration ranged from 4 weeks to 12 months from one study to the next.
Preventive or curative treatment against allergic rhinitis and even other forms of allergy should be extended to a period of at least 6 weeks, so that the right gut microflora can be relied upon.
If the allergic rhinitis is then due to dust mite. and is also associated with the atopic dermatitis, along with pharmacological treatment and protective treatment with probiotics, purification of one’s home environment with useful products to defeat mite and other allergens should be conducted, and frequent bedding changes should be performed.
