Tuina is a form of traditional Chinese massage that uses various manual techniques to stimulate the body’s pressure points, joints, and soft tissues in order to improve circulation, relieve pain, and promote overall well-being. The term “Tuina” (推拿) literally means “push” and “grasp” in Chinese.
Tuina has a long history in China and is considered one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary therapy.
It is often used to treat a wide range of health problems, including headaches, muscle aches, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory problems, and many others.
During a Tuina session, the therapist uses a combination of manual techniques, including pushing, rubbing, massaging, pressing, and grasping, to manipulate the pressure points, joints, and soft tissues of the body. Depending on the patient’s needs, the therapist may use light or deep pressure, slow or rapid movements, and various other techniques to achieve the desired effect.
Tuina can be an effective treatment for many health disorders and, when performed properly by a qualified therapist, is considered a safe and noninvasive practice.
