Menopause is a physiological event that affects all women in the age range of 46 to 53 years and corresponds to the gradual loss of ovarian function and, therefore, the fertile period of a woman’s life.
This is a delicate period on a physical and psychoemotional level, as the reduction in the levels of female hormones (produced mainly by the ovary during childbearing age) entails an extensive series of changes at the metabolic, tissue, cerebral, and psychic levels, to which the woman must adapt and which, especially at an early stage, can create discomfort on several fronts.
Individual reactions to the changes of menopause, however, are highly variable from woman to woman, and while some women may experience significant discomfort and symptoms, others experience no particular discomfort and only become aware of the end of the fertile period following the disappearance of menstrual flow.
