TheAmerican Academy of Sleep Medicine is calling for the eliminationof daylightsaving time, arguing that public health and safety would benefit from eliminating daylight saving time.
Explaining in the statement that standard time is more closely aligned with the daily rhythms of the body’s internal clock of the circadian cycle.
The position statement also cites evidence of increased risks of motor vehicle accidents, cardiovascular events, and mood disorders after the annual addition of an extra hour of daylight in the spring.
Daylight Saving Time, according to Sleep Medicine researchers, produces more darkness in the morning and more light in the evening, disrupting the body’s natural rhythm and would increase the risk of diseases such as Stroke, increase inflammatory markers, and also the overall stress level.
