Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) is a fairly common hormonal disorder among women of childbearing age, so defined because it is related to the presence at the ovary of multiple fluid-filled follicles that do not follow the normal monthly maturation cycle.
Multiple follicles typical of PCOS are incapable of releasing the mature egg according to the physiological timelines provided by the menstrual cycle and are characterized by altered hormonal activity, in particular, with regard to the production of male hormones (androgens), which increases abnormally contributing to the characteristic symptoms of the disorder.
