Obstruction of the carotid arteries (they carry blood and oxygen to the brain) can be treated with medication or by resorting to surgery. Tips for “cleaning” the vessels and preventing brain stroke.
Atherosclerotic disease is the main cause of stenosis formation at the carotid arteries, important arteries that carry blood to the brain. These are plaques that can cause symptoms mostly due to the detachment of small fragments (emboli) that, following blood flow, reach the brain and cause damage(cerebral ischemia). They range from short-lived events to full-blown strokes: between 10 and 20 percent of the latter are due to the presence of carotid stenosis.
