L’artrite reumatoide è una malattia infiammatoria cronica su base autoimmunitaria che colpisce in primo luogo le articolazioni, ma che interessa l’intero organismo e che, con il tempo, soprattutto se non adeguatamente trattata può comportare complicanze cardiovascolari, neurologiche, renali, oculari, polmonari .

L’autogestione di una patologia cronica da parte di un malato viene definita come “le decisioni ed i comportamenti che i pazienti devono prendere per incidere sul proprio stato di salute”. Un supporto fondamentale all’autogestione è dato dall’aiuto ai pazienti nella comprensione del loro ruolo centrale nella gestione della loro malattia, al fine di prendere decisioni informate sulla cura ed impegnarsi in comportamenti sani.
Molti pazienti non comprendono del tutto ciò che viene detto loro dai medici o dalle loro équipe, non partecipando alle decisioni relative la loro cura, rimanendo pertanto impreparati a prendere decisioni quotidiane e intraprendere le azioni che portano a una buona gestione della loro malattia.

Finalità
Consentire ai pazienti di fare buone scelte e sostenere comportamenti sani richiede un rapporto di collaborazione: una nuova partnership di salute tra i medici, le loro équipe, i pazienti e le loro famiglie.
