Alcoholic liver steatosis and steatohepatitis (NAFLD AND NASH)

fegato

It is a fatty infiltration of the liver parenchyma very similar to alcoholic hepatitis. In some cases it is possible for it to evolve into steatohepatitis and consequently cirrhosis. Nonalcoholic hepatic steatosis is widespread today due in part to the increase in obesity and metabolic syndrome in the adult population. Differential diagnosis should be made between hepatitis B and C with alcoholic hepatitis. Such a picture is seen especially in severe Kwashiorkor-type malnutrition , with a deficiency of protein and excess of endogenous or exogenous pro-oxidants.

The intervention diet is indicated in both situations: in the first case with a diet balanced, in the second case with special reference to the correction of the deficiency of protein and antioxidants in the diet.

Tips dietary

The diet should include slow and gradual weight loss, with fat reduction and the abolition of alcoholic and hard liquor drinks. NASH is also described in patients with type II diabetes or hyperlipidemia.
