A type of itch that is certainly more embarrassing is one that can target the genitals, often forcing real contortions to try to quell it.
In women, intimate itching can originate from a few main causes such as:
- a candidiasis;
- a fungal infection;
- vaginitis;
- a dehydration of the vaginal mucosa;
- from sexually transmitted diseases;
- by irritation caused by irritating agents;
- from overly tight clothing or even from an allergic reaction.
Initial relief may come from using cotton, non-dyed underwear and clothing that does not squeeze the genital area too tightly. Immediately thereafter, depending on the cause of the disorder, resort to drugs against the diagnosed infection or antifungal creams, or moisturizing washes.
In men, intimate itching can originate from a few main causes such as:
- a fungal infection(e.g., candida albicans), which can invade genitals and groin with inflammation, redness, and balanitis;
- by bacteria or viruses;
- from sexually transmitted diseases.
Initial relief is provided by continuous washing, but itching must be eradicated by administration of the specific drug chosen for treatment.
The principle of not self-medicating but seeking care from the specialist applies to all.
