Many diseases can cause abdominal pain, but some conditions can be life-threatening and therefore require surgical treatment.
What to do?
- It is necessary for the victim not to eat or drink anything.
- Do not give laxatives and pain medications to the victim.
- If the pain is of the burning type, administer an antacid.
- The patient should maintain a comfortable position, usually with knees bent.
- Call for an ambulance if the pain is accompanied by abdominal injury, blood effusions, fever, pregnancy, or if the pain lasts more than 12 hours.
